County Waste has partnered with us to honor those in our communities who are truly making a difference.

All throughout 2016, we will be recognizing one “hero” per month based on their inspirational feats, work helping their neighbors, and everyday passion.

This month we honor Catherine Saltsman, a Special Education teacher from Ballston, NY.

Catherine goes above and beyond her role as a Special Education teacher in the Amsterdam school district. She also runs the school's Student Government, headed a beautification project for her 5th graders, and created a girl's running club. On top of all this, Catherine's nominator, Carol, says she's also a single mother of a beautiful 2 1/2 year old boy.

The beautification project that Catherine put into motion involved students planting vegetable seeds in honor of Earth Day, to help them learn in a hands-on way. It was also funded by local businesses which promoted a wonderful sense of community. In addition, Catherine started the girl's running club to promote body positivity and empower young ladies. Catherine truly goes above and beyond the call of duty, and that's why she's our June Hometown Hero.
