Back in May, Disney released the first teaser trailer for their live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and although it was a rather lovely homage to the teaser for the classic animated version, it’s the only real preview we’ve had for the upcoming film. While we anxiously await the full official trailer, new concept art has debuted online that offers our first look at Lumiere and Cogsworth, along with a behind-the-scenes image of Gaston’s famous musical sequence.
Disney shows no signs of slowing down plans for their ever-expanding live-action empire, which not only includes remakes of their classic animated titles, but new adaptations of various beloved properties, like James and the Giant Peach. Roald Dahl’s darkly whimsical children’s story is the latest project on the studio’s to-do list, with recent Bond director Sam Mendes in talks to take the helm.
The DCEU has been keeping Ben Affleck pretty busy with Justice League and plans for a new solo Batman film, which the actor will also co-write and direct. Those commitments are partially responsible for the repeated delays on his Dennis Lehane adaptation, Live by Night, which may or may not hit theaters before the end of the year. Despite his increasingly crowded schedule, Affleck has picked up another project to direct and star in, but who knows when he’ll have the time to actually make it happen.
Marvel and Sony have been a bit secretive about a few of the characters in Spider-Man: Homecoming — particularly the one played by Disney Channel star Zendaya, who is simply credited as “Michelle.” But according to a new report, Zendaya’s role is no longer a secret, as the true identity of her mysterious character in the reboot has been revealed. SPOILERS ahead.
Many people were annoyed / repulsed by reports of Jared Leto’s “method acting” on the set of Suicide Squad, but it looks like Denis Villeneuve wasn’t one of them. Leto has officially joined the cast of the Sicario director’s untitled Blade Runner sequel, which should surely test the paper-thin patience of Harrison Ford. In related news, feel free to place your bets now on which of Leto’s co-stars will be charged with assault before production ends.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the subject of a big feature in next month’s issue of Empire Magazine, which means we can expect to learn a whole lot more about the making of Lucasfilm’s new spinoff in the coming weeks. Until then, you can get a new look at Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso and her team of merry rebel misfits on the cover of the forthcoming issue, which also offers another peek at K-2SO.
How many times will you be afforded the opportunity, in this lifetime, to look at Brad Pitt and say, “In your dreams”? Probably never to his face, unless your name is David Fincher, and your old pal Brad Pitt comes to ask you for a favor, and that favor happens to be directing a sequel to World War Z. Can you even imagine David Fincher directing a sequel to someone else’s movie — especially one that was just OK?
UnREAL hasn’t always been tidy in its storytelling, but the messy quality of its characters — specifically Quinn and Rachel — are part of what makes the Lifetime series so painfully relatable and endearing. Unfortunately, Season 2 was just plain painful to watch as the show transformed into an ouroboros of melodrama, blatantly manufacturing its shocking twists and ultimately becoming the very thing it originally set out to deconstruct: An exploitative feat of narrative engineering. Spoilers to follow.
The latest trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will debut Thursday night during NBC’s coverage of the 2016 Olympics, but until then, we have some new intel on Gareth Edwards’ spinoff / prequel to hold you over. Specifically, Edwards has offered interesting details on a new desert planet (yes, another one) featured in Rogue One, while Riz Ahmed shares a little background on his mysterious Rebel pilot character, Bodhi.
It’s been a long, long, long, long road for the new Friday the 13th movie, which was originally announced back in 2013. Since then, the project has made a few trips through the rumor mill, landing and losing a director and picking up a few different release dates along the way. Maybe things are finally turning around for the latest installment in the classic franchise, as Paramount and Platinum Dunes have their sights set on a new director.
