We haven’t even gotten to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 yet, and James Gunn is already hyping us up for the next one. Yes, there will be a Vol. 3, he promises, it’s just a matter of when and figuring out what kind of story to tell.
Kate McKinnon, arguably Saturday Night Live’s most beloved current cast member, is adding another voice acting gig to her repertoire. She’ll be voicing three characters for the upcoming animated film Leap!, the new French-Canadian-produced adventure hitting theaters this spring. The movie’s cast already includes Elle Fanning, Nat Wolff, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Mel Brooks.
For many of us, the main draw of the new live-action Beauty and the Beast is Luke Evans’ dangerously handsome Gaston. The classic Disney villain arguably has the best song in the entire original movie, and probably the snazziest outfit of all the Disney baddies. While Belle got a bit of a character upgrade for the new movie (she is now the inventor, instead of her father, because director Bill Condon figured the townspeople need more of a reason to think she’s weird than… she reads books), Gaston also got one too, and it very well might make you like him a little.
James Gray’s newest film The Lost City of Z has quietly become a hit with critics and Gray devotees ever since debuting at last year’s New York Film Festival. It’s about to hit theaters here, and its newest trailer, while the briefest look we’ve gotten of it so far, shows off the immense scope of what looks like a modern movie that dreams of being an Old Hollywood epic.
By now, everyone knows that Logan is Hugh Jackman’s last go-round as Wolverine. It’s tough to see him go — he’s arguably the protagonist of the original X-Men trilogy and was always a welcome presence in the new crop of movies, but he’s a big star now, and Logan is a tone-perfect way to round out his career as that character. Now, the question becomes: who, if anyone, will take his place? The X-Men series will still continue for at least one more movie, and there are a number of spinoffs in the works, so Wolverine will have to reappear somehow, right?
J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World 2 has kicked off production and has been adding cast members left and right for the past few weeks. We know Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt (and probably B.D. Wong) are reprising their roles from the first one, and a few new faces like Toby Jones, Geraldine Chaplin, and James Cromwell are joining up, but so far the exact plot is a mystery. Bayona shared the first image from the film today, and it definitely provides more questions than answers.
Sure, the Academy Awards are swanky and fun and tell us what the industry wants in a film, but what about what the people want? Well, as it turns out, when Fandango conducted a poll of 8,000 moviegoers nationwide, Oscar favorite La La Land didn‘t stand a chance against Hidden Figures.
After seeing four of her movies premiere last year — Personal Shopper, Certain Women, Cafe Society, and Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk — Kristen Stewart is back at it, this time with something a little different. She’s currently in talks for an action-thriller joint titled Underwater, which will be directed by The Signal’s Will Eubank.
Chloe Moretz went on an acting hiatus for a little while last fall after filming both November Criminals and Brain on Fire back to back — an understandable decision for someone who’s kept their schedule consistently busy since the first Kick Ass. And portraying someone with anti-NDMA receptor encephalitis can‘t have been exactly restful. Moretz is back in the acting game, having signed on to the Suspiria remake and The Miseducation of Cameron Post, but we get to see her efforts for Brain on Fire right now in a new trailer.
