‘Passengers’ Review: The Grossest Movie Premise of 2016?

Imagine, you’ve given up your life on Earth, paid a ton of money to take a 120-year-long nap, and when you wake up you won’t have aged a day and will be starting over on a brand new planet. ‘Rules Don’t Apply’ Review: Warren Beatty’s Strange, Uneven Howard Hughes Biopic

A Howard Hughes biopic by Warren Beatty sounds pretty interesting. Any portrayal of the eccentric recluse and his ventures into Hollywood are enough to pique my interest. But Rules Don’t Apply is hardly a biopic on the billionaire; instead Beatty’s first directorial effort since 1998’s Bulworth is an uninteresting love story about an aspiring actress and a young driver. Toss in some uneven comedy, a creepy sex scene, some premature ejaculation, and a song Lily Collins never stops singing and you’ve got yourself one very strange movie about Howard Hughes.

J.J. Abrams’ ‘God Particle’ Will Be the Third ‘Cloverfield’ Film

J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield universe is quickly becoming one of the more interesting cinematic universes. Instead of stringing together a series of connected sequels and spinoffs à la the Marvel and DC cinematic universes, the 2008 found footage thriller has spawned something a little more ambiguous. This year saw the surprise release of Bad Robot’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, which was less a sequel to the 2008 movie and more of a blood relative. And now we finally have confirmation of what the third film in the Clover-verse will be.

‘Black Mirror’ Season 3 Review: A Mixed Bag Of Horror and Hope

The brilliance of Black Mirror is how it feels relatable to our present, yet just far enough into the future. Creator Charlie Brooker described that distance best when he said the dark satire is about “the way we might be living in 10 minutes’ time if we’re clumsy.” There’s an emphasis is on the “we” in Black Mirror, a show that isn’t about the evils of technology, but the ways it can fuel the vile and detestable parts of human behavior to harrowing degrees.

What’s Expiring From Netflix: October 2016

Sure, there’s a ton of great titles headed to Netflix Instant in October, but you better watch the ones that are expiring first. The time for a Back to the Future marathon is now. Or why not revisit Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The Running Man one last time? You also better bump The Exorcist to the top of your queue and reschedule your scary movie night; it’s gonna be long gone before Halloween hits. Also, The Truman Show is leaving, a movie that simply cannot be watched too many times.

New Netflix Instant Releases: October 2016

The best thing about the beginning of a new month is the slew of new releases and classics coming to Netflix Instant. Wishing you could have a rom-com double feature? Good, because now you can with How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Bummed you missed two art house releases, Greek comedy Chevalier and last year’s Palme d’Or winner Dheepan? No problem. Have you been itching for a good cry and Titanic movie night? Wait no longer! (Sorry, I buried the lead. Titanic coming to Netflix is all that matters.) On top of those, the new season of dystopian tech thriller Black Mirror hits Netflix Instant next month, plus Christopher Guest‘s Mascots and Ava DuVernay’s documentary The 13th. It’s gonna be a good month of you, your TV and your couch.
