‘Judge Dredd: Mega-City One’ TV Series in Development

Judge Dredd TV Series Mega City One
Lionsgate

Just as fan-fervor for Deadpool brought us two movies and a TV series, so too is Judge Dredd ready for his small-screen close-up. A new report says IM Global and UK game developer Rebellion have begun work on a live-action Judge Dredd: Mega-City One TV series, even displaying a full poster.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the as-yet-unattached drama has entered early development, with talent arriving at a later date. In addition to the “ensemble drama” synopsis below, have a look at the poster artwork:

The show is set in a future where the East Coast of the U.S. has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis. It will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges — futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner — as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them.

Dredd was created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra in 1977 for British comic 2000 AD, and was famously brought to the silver screen by (an unmasked) Sylvester Stallone in 1995. 2012 saw while Karl Urban and director Alex Garland delivering a much more faithful take on the character, with numerous calls for a sequel since.

No network is yet attached to the project, but can a small-screen the version fill the hole left behind by Urban’s fan-favorite portrayal? What should a third take on Judge Dredd material change?
