County Waste has partnered with us to honor those in our communities who are truly making a difference.

All throughout 2016, we will be recognizing one “hero” per month based on their inspirational feats, work helping their neighbors and everyday passion.

This month we honor James Wiley, a devoted teacher and boys JV soccer coach in the Lansingburgh school district.

Wiley goes above and beyond the call of duty by forming positive, hands-on relationships with his students. With gang activity and violence on the rise in the community surrounding Lansingburgh, Wiley makes it his mission to keep his students out of harm's way by encouraging them and spiking their interest in sports. Wiley serves as a positive role model in his community and to all of the kids he coaches and teaches.

“He has arranged things, like taking them to a haunted house, or having play station 4 tournaments in his classroom after hours. He's offered to foot the bill for kids who can't afford to pay the $60 it costs to play indoor soccer. He truly cares about these boys”, says Wiley's nominator.
