Rumor: Is This the Superhero Lineup for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’?

We already know Avengers: Infinity War is going to be huge, with the current MCU arcs building toward a crossover event that promises to be the studio’s biggest yet — even bigger than Captain America: Civil War. According to previous comments made by directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Infinity War will feature dozens of characters from the Marvel universe, including Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. As for the rest of the lineup, we can only make educated guesses, but a new casting call may have spilled the beans.

File this one under Rumors for now, but according to a Movie Casting Call report, these are the characters we can expect to see in Avengers: Infinity War — and it’s definitely somewhat believable, given the inclusion of Larson and Pratt:

  • Thor (Chris Hemsworth)
  • Thanos (Josh Brolin)
  • Star-Lord / Peter Quill (Chris Pratt)
  • Bucky (Sebastian Stan)
  • Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson)
  • Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)
  • Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel (Brie Larson)
  • Gamora (Zoe Saldana)
  • Nebula (Karen Gillan)
  • Clint Barton / Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner)
  • Steve Rogers / Captain America (Chris Evans)
  • Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen)
  • Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper)
  • Groot (Vin Diesel)
  • Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson)
  • Scott Lang / Ant-Man (Paul Rudd)
  • Wong (Benedict Wong)
  • Drax (Dave Bautista)
  • Vision (Paul Bettany)
  • T’Challa / Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman)
  • Bruce Banner / The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)
  • Tony Stark / Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.)

The most interesting names on that list are Guardians of the Galaxy cast members, including Nebula, who has a bigger role to play in James Gunn’s forthcoming sequel. And since Captain Marvel’s solo film doesn’t hit theaters until 2019, it makes sense that she’d be introduced a little earlier, though it’s hard to imagine she’ll get enough screen time with such a major ensemble. It’s also cool to see Benedict Wong included on the roster, since he was a real highlight of Doctor Strange, and Samuel L. Jackson, whose Nick Fury has not appeared in the MCU since 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron — that wasn’t that long ago in real-life years, but in MCU time, that’s something of a lengthy absence.

Again, this is just a big ol’ rumor for now, but the concept of having the Guardians crossover with the rest of the MCU has been tossed around for a bit, and having them show up in Infinity War is the most logical place to do that — especially since they’ve encountered Thanos before.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
