‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Deleted Scene Turns ‘The Winter Soldier’ Into a Conspiracy Theory

As it turns out, the only thing Peter Parker (and Sony) needed to make us actually want too see another reboot was a little help from the MCU. Spider-Man: Homecoming was one of the most pleasant surprises of the year, thanks in no small part to an exciting deal with Marvel that allowed Sony to borrow Iron Man and Captain America. Director Jon Watts successfully incorporated elements and characters from the MCU in a way that felt organic to his reboot, but there were at least a few references that didn’t make the cut.

…Like the above deleted scene from the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of Spider-Man: Homecoming. In the scene, Peter (Tom Holland), Michelle (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) are on the bus headed to D.C., when they pass the skycraft carrier that crashed during the climax of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Michelle points out the fictional government clean-up crew known as Damage Control and offers a conspiracy theory: “They’re still cleaning up after Captain America crashed those skycraft carriers for no reason.” Ned says Cap was saving the day, but according to Michelle, “That’s what they want you to think.”

It’s a neat reference to the MCU and gives Zendaya another humorous moment, but it’s not super important; obviously, Homecoming is still great without it.

Spider-Man: Homecoming arrives on DVD and Blu-ray (with more deleted scenes and extras!) on October 17.
